Current High Sheriff

Clare Sawdon nee Burman

The Inauguration of the new High Sheriff of Warwickshire’s took place on Thursday 29th March 2018, Sir John Saunders presided in Court No. 1 at the Shire Hall, Warwick.

Clare can trace her family back to Alveston in Stratford to 1240 and the Burman family have farmed in Warwickshire continuously since that time. She has two grown up children and two grandchildren. Clare has been a magistrate in Warwickshire for thirty-two years and has served on the family panel forthirty years. One of her priorities during her shrieval year will be to highlight the problem of domestic abuse across the county and the strains this has on the lives of those trying to cope with this increasing problem. The knock-on effect for children and the wider family unit is troubling.

Clare has served as a Parish and District councillor, chairing Warwick District Council in 2014/15. She was a Non-Executive Director of South Warwickshire Healthcare Trust and Combined Care Trust up until 2002, where she chaired the Mental Health Act Committee.

She is currently self employed as a fundraiser and served as a member of the Shakespeare Birthplace Development team in 2016 where she was heavily involved with raising the funds for Shakespeare’s New Place.

Clare is passionate about her home county of Warwickshire and it’s people.
